Charles’s Mighty story

Charles Harrell is a 7-year-old boy who was recently diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer called bilateral Wilms tumor. To me, it’s just a fancy way of saying “double kidney cancer.” Unlike some families who spend years going through doctor visits searching for answers, this came completely out of nowhere. After a weekend of being sick, we went to the hospital, where an ultrasound revealed two tumors—one on each kidney—already at stage three. It felt like the wind was knocked out of us. From that day in July 2025, everything changed.

Within six months, Charles has already undergone surgery to remove one of the tumors, saving two-thirds of his left kidney. He is currently in his 4th cycle of chemotherapy, going five days a week, trying to shrink the remaining tumor so doctors can remove it and save his other kidney. We have scans coming up on January 12, with results on January 14, and we are praying hard for good news. We were told the last scans showed the Boston hospital may have left some tumor behind, so we are hoping these last two cycles will make a difference.

What makes Charles mighty

Charles has been unbelievably strong throughout this entire process. Over the past couple of months, he has had to face things no child should—learning he won’t be going back to school with all his friends, and learning that being poked and put to sleep regularly is now part of life. None of this is easy on anyone, especially a child. If you can take a moment to pray for my son, I would appreciate it more than anything.
